Who is responsible for an external drain blockage? +

In general, the homeowner is responsible for unblocking any drains within your property boundary such as, beneath your house, garden, and driveway. These are classed as private drains. Any drains which do not share pipes with your neighbours are your responsibility to unblock.

How do I know if my drains are blocked? +

There are always indications that can be easily spotted, which indicate that your drains are blocked.

*Does the water level in your toilet look higher than usual?
*When flushing the toilet does the waste tend to linger?
*Is a strange smell emitting from your systems?

If these symptoms are spotted early on, we can deal with the route of the problem promptly in order to prevent any more serious problems from happening. Be quick to spot these problems, because its always significantly cheaper to fix a small problem rather than letting it become a more severe one.

I’m not sure If the blockage is coming from my property, is there any way to find out? +

It is relatively straightforward to find out if the problems are confined to your property by requesting a plan of the drainage from the Local Water Authority. This will show you if you do have troubles with the drainage within your property boundaries, or if this is an issue that relates to your neighbour. Give us a call for some free helpful advice if you have any concerns or questions you would like answered.

When do you need CCTV? +

If you are experiencing re-occurring problems on a regular basis, then we may recommend a CCTV assessment. Strange odours from drains and toilets may signify a blockage or waste struggling to flush freely down the toilet. This is a common problem and usually easily rectified.

A CCTV assessment will allow us to quickly identify the problem and provide a suitable solution. At Cotswold Drainage, there’s always free helpful advice and a free quotation, to give you an idea of the cost to address your problem.
